SUBJECT: Sandburg PTO: Parade & Food Drive

Dear Sandburg Families,

Our annual Book Fair was a great success.  Thank you to Mrs. Mosley for her organized guidance and to the many volunteers that were essential.  We will report final numbers soon!

Don't forget the upcoming Southglenn Holiday Parade! Come march with Sandburg and share your holiday spirit! Details below.

As mentioned last week, Sandburg has a number of outreach programs in place to help those in need, including enrichment support and our Holiday Giving Campaign. But one of our LPS neighbor schools is in need of our assistance.  Please read below to see how you can help Centennial Elementary through our Food Drive.

March in the Parade!

The holidays are back at the Streets of SouthGlenn and Sandburg is once again joining in on the fun!  Please join us on Friday, November 22nd for the 4th Annual Holiday Grand Parade at Streets of SouthGlenn. ALL SANDBURG STUDENTS AND FAMILY WELCOME!

This will be our 4th year participating in the Grand Holiday Parade and you don’t want to miss it! We'd love for you to join in walking with our Sandburg community through the parade OR simply come out to watch and enjoy the festivities (real reindeer, Santa's arrival and tree lighting)!

This annual event brings our community together in celebration, filled with holiday cheer, local performances, and family-friendly activities.  Plus, Sandburg will receive 1,000 points per person that attends. Simply upload a photo of your group here. (Note: these photos are not shared anywhere, they are simply used as proof of attendance).

If you'd like to walk in the parade, we encourage you to get out your festive hats AND holiday flair! Light up and glow accessories are encouraged - let's LIGHT UP the night with our Sandburg spirit! Sandy, our Mascot, will be there along with other holiday characters.

PARADE - SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

5:30 pm  Meet the Sandburg group in the Sears parking lot staging area. Look for the black vintage truck and balloons to find our group!

5:45 pm  Group photo will be taken (Sandburg earns points for each person in the photo).

6:00 pm Parade begins and goes through the commons area at the Streets of Southglenn (30 minutes or less).

We will encourage families to turn right at the corner of Vine St. and Briarwood Ave to continue back to watch the rest of the parade (and avoid the Macy's parking lot).

Shopping or dining at the Streets of Southglenn? Remember to save and submit your receipts for points towards funds for Sandburg! All receipts dated and submitted Nov 16 - Jan 15 will earn 15 points per dollar. It's very easy to submit receipts at www.shopandlog.com/sandburg

Centennial Elementary in Need

A fellow LPS Elementary School is finding food needs at their highest level in school history, and Sandburg would like to help.  We will be collecting the following items to send home directly with their students.  Please consider dropping off a contribution at the Sandburg Front Office beginning December 2nd.

  • 1 lb bags of white rice
  • 1 lb bags of brown rice
  • Canned tuna, large or small cans
  • Canned chicken, large or small cans
  • Pasta
  • Cans of pasta sauce
  • Boxes of cereal
  • Boxes of crackers
  • Cans of fruit
  • Peanut butter
  • Fruit cups
  • Please NO GLASS containers
  • Please pick food with LONG expiration dates

Food insecurity is a growing concern across the metro area, leaving over 25% of kids at Centennial without food to eat on the weekends or days off from school. Full bellies are important to make sure every kid at Centennial has the best opportunity to learn. Many of the families in need do not have transportation, or are working during the times offered by other local food pantries. To ensure nutritional needs of our community are met, we send a bag of food home each weekend for select children - kindergarten through 5th. In 2024, we are serving over 75 students weekly through Rotary grants and generous donations from the Centennial community.

We truly appreciate your participation in contributing to the health and well being of the Centennial community!

Lost & Found

The Lost and Found cart is overflowing again! Please check the front entrance for missing items!

REMINDER: Label ALL jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, lunchboxes, etc.
