SUBJECT: Sandburg PTO Weekly News - 5/14/24

Hello Sandburg,

I bet if you walked into school right now and asked any staff member or kid how many days of school are left they would rattle off "9 Days!" without skipping a beat!  With less than two weeks to go, summer fever is in full effect!

Don't forget to turn in those library books this week and Chromebooks on Monday, 5/20. Please also take a moment to check the lost and found for any items your kids may be missing.

We are still in need of volunteers for Field Day (particularly in the second shift). First shift volunteers will run from 8:30 - 11:45am for grades K-2. Second shift volunteers will go from 11:40am - 2:45pm for grades 3-5. Come help out if you can, sign up here.

A reminder that our final PTO meeting of the year is this Thursday, May 16th at 6pm in the Sandburg Library. The year is coming to a close, but there is still some loose ends to wrap up. We hope you will join us!

Keep reading for more details about Field Day, a note to 5th grade parents about Continuation, and a special 'thank you' for an amazing Staff Appreciation Week.

Volunteers Needed!

It's time for FIELD DAY! This year’s theme is Lego Star Wars, so each station will be based on a favorite character from Far, Far, Away!

What to Bring:

  • Water bottle labeled with your student’s first and last name and class
  • Comfortable athletic shoes
  • Sunscreen. It gets hot! Sunscreen cannot be provided by the school due to allergies, so please lather them up in the morning or send them with a bottle from home.
  • There will be water activities, so please send your child in clothes that can get wet and dry easily/quickly.  One piece swimsuits are also allowed but please have a set of dry clothes to change into.
  • A jacket or sweatshirt in case it gets colder
  • Please label EVERYTHING they bring for this day, many items have a tendency to get lost or misplaced.

Field Day can't happen without volunteers!

There are quite a few sign-up slots still available. Come help out if you can. We guarantee great weather and lots of fun.

Parents are welcome to come and watch and cheer on the kids.

  • Grades K - 2 events are from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
  • Grades 3 - 5 events are from 12:00 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.
Attention 5th Grade Parents!

We are all so excited, and sad at the same time, to send your children/grandchildren off to bigger and better things, but there are still a few things left to take care of...

Pool Party Release Waiver

Don't forget to turn in your Pool Party Release Waiver in order for your child to attend the pool party on 5/24. Kids should turn them into their homeroom teacher. Waivers were sent home in Friday Folders last week, but if you need another copy, click here.

Snack Donations Needed!

We are still looking for donations of snack items for the pool party. All other costs for the party, ceremony and reception are being covered by PTO.

5th Grade Yard Signs

Don't forget to fill out the Google form for how you'd like to receive your child's yard sign. We have volunteers who will be delivering them to your front yard the evening before continuation, but in order to do so, we need your address. If you prefer to pick-up your sign at the school, we will have those available for pick-up at the front office on Thursday, May 23.

School Supply Kits are Back!

We are excited to welcome back one of the best and easiest solutions for our families - pre-assembled and pre-approved school supply kits! This time-saving and simple program also works as a fundraiser for Sandburg - last year we sold 195 kits and raised $975 for Sandburg!

The greatest win wasn’t the fundraising dollars though, it was the time, energy and money our families saved on shopping for school supplies!

We also received a number of generously “donated” kits. These contributions fully covered ALL our students’ supply needs, including those would have otherwise not been able to afford them.

Ordering closes on 7/1!! Order Your Supply Kits TODAY!

Thank You!

Thank you to all of our kids, families and volunteers who made Staff Appreciation Week so amazing with door decorations and special treats for the staff! We know everyone's efforts meant a lot to our teachers and staff.

PTO celebrated our staff last week with small tokens of appreciation and gratitude each day and a few yummy breakfast/lunches:

  • Monday: Show Your Love — Breakfast for staff from Snooze
  • Tuesday: Nacho Average Staff — staff lunch from Qdoba
  • Wednesday: We Are Never Blue with Staff Like You — Blue journals for all staff
  • Thursday: You Are So Sweet — Hip-Pops sweet treat for all staff
  • Friday: Favorite's Day — Peet's gift cards for staff and scavenger hunt with gift cards for teachers.

Check the Lost & Found

Remember to check the Lost & Found for items your kids may be missing. All unlabeled items will be donated at the end of the school year and there's a LOT down there. A great time to swing by if you'll be around for Field Day!
