SUBJECT: PTO News: Spring Fever After the Snowstorm

Hello Sandburg,

This Thursday, March 21 at 5:30pm please join us in the Sandburg library for the CSSAC & PTO Meeting. CSSAC will kick off the meeting at 5:30-6:45pm, with the PTO meeting immediately following. Remember that all Sandburg families and staff are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Teacher Raffle Drawing will take place Thursday, March 21st, during lunch times, so make sure all entries are in by Tuesday, March 19th end of day.  Check out deals on Sandburg Spirit Wear, SouthGlenn Street Smarts Points & Socks Needed, Chick-Fil-A Out & About (with the mobile app), and Spring Break!

Eat More Chicken - Tonight!

Our next Out & About is Tuesday, March 19th from 4-7pm at all of our kids favorite, Chick-fil-A in SouthGlenn. Our school will receive 20% of all MOBILE sales. This means that ALL orders need to be placed thru the mobile app using keyword “Sandburg” (mobile dine-in, mobile carryout, and mobile drive-thru).

CSSAC & PTO: What, Who, & Why?

Thursday, March 21 at 5:30pm in the Sandburg library to discuss staffing for next year and where our money is going. 


What is CSSAC:

Carl Sandburg School Accountability Committee (CSSAC) has been a combined effort with PTO, but will be divided into a separate entity. 

  • Aims to improve educational achievement 
  • Recommend expenditure priorities 
  • Discuss school safety issues 
  • Be a conduit between the Sandburg community and principal  

If you are interested, please review the by-laws and submit an application to be reviewed by Principal McCabe.


What is PTO:

PTO is a formal organization made up of parents, teachers, and staff whose primary goals are to support Sandburg Elementary in its academic endeavors. Additionally:

  • Encourage parent involvement 
  • Support teachers 
  • Organize family events  

PTO also aims to enhance the quality of education by raising funds for school supplies, equipment, staff or programs that fall outside of the school’s budget. The past several years we have aimed to contribute around $50,000 to staffing support.


Anyone is welcome to participate in and contribute to these missions, or simply be present to show your interest and support!
