SUBJECT: We Need Your Help!

Happy Wednesday Sandburg!

Welcome back from a snowy & sunny four-day weekend!  We have a few fun wraps ups in April before charging ahead into the last month of the school year and Teacher Appreciation.

First, please don't forget to turn in your Streets of SouthGlenn receipts by Tuesday, April 30th. All receipts dated from August 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024 count towards our total. I know we talk a lot about turning in our SouthGlenn receipts, but it helps our school so much to win these cash prizes. These funds go towards purchasing our staff luncheons, student prizes, office supplies, etc., etc... So let's finish strong and turn these bad boys in. Log receipts online at shopandlog.com/southglenn.

Today is the LAST day to turn in books for the Book Swap. Drop-off bins will be outside and inside the front lobby. Please clearly mark the student name, grade, and teacher for your child to get “credit” to use when they shop.

Finally, we have lots of volunteer opportunities available. Keep reading for sign-ups for Teacher Cart donations, Book Swap volunteers and door decorating for Teacher Appreciation Week. If you can help, check out the links below!

School-Wide Stock the Teacher Cart

Open to All Sandburg Families!

Traditionally we ask one grade per month to “Stock the Cart”, with PTO picking up August and September this year. In May, we ask for contributions to the cart from all Sandburg families. Please consider donating if you didn’t have a chance previously this year, or if you want to supply something fun and special for teachers and staff to finish out the year with!

Please have all donations to the front office by morning drop-off on (or before) Wednesday, May 1.

Bring Your Books = Get Credits!

Over 800 Books have come in so far with many more on the way. We've been fortunate to supplement the selection with PTO and additional funding, so make sure you turn in books by TODAY - Wednesday, April 24th so you can shop for new summer reading material!

Essentially students bring in books (new, like new, or in good condition) to gain “credits” to “shop” for new/swapped books to start their summer reading lists!

  • Deadline for turning in books is Wednesday, April 24th.
  • Please clearly mark the student name, grade, and teacher for your child to get “credit” to use when they shop. Ideally, place all books in a bag with label and label the outside of the bag.

  • Each book collected will count for (1) “credit” for that student to then “shop and swap” for another book. “Easy Readers”, i.e. - I Can Read or Step Into Reading will be credited as ½ credit.

Students will be able to "shop" for books using their credits starting Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 3

Volunteers Needed!

Help Sort Books:
We need your help volunteering BEFORE the swap to help organize and sort all of the incoming books and have them ready for the kids to come "shop" the following week.

Congratulations to Our Honorees!

We are so honored to have multiple staff recognized at the LPS Curo Award Celebration Tuesday, April 23rd at the Epic Campus. The nominated Sandburg Staff were as follows: Kelly Aikens, Kathy Egan, Julie Mathews, Alyssa Neugeboren, Heather Sherman, Maeve Venezia.

We even had Sandburg Students recognized as Junior Curo Nominees. Whitney Wallace and Keira Liley!

From the LPS website: "Curo is the Latin word for "to care for" or "to pay attention to," and is a fitting word to use to honor individuals who make a difference in the lives of children with disabilities. This award recognizes the dedication and commitment of individuals who impact the life of an LPS student with special needs. Any LPS community member, staff member, or student is eligible to receive the recognition.

It's the FINAL COUNTDOWN!

Gaskill has knocked us into 2nd place, but we have a chance to bounce back.  This is the last week to submit receipts for the Southglenn Street Smarts Program.

  • First Place in Streets of SouthGlenn receipts = $2500 for our school.   These funds go towards purchasing our staff luncheons, student prizes, office supplies, etc., etc...

  •  All receipts must be submitted by Tuesday, April 30th.

  • Don't forget your camps and lessons with Mrs. Vincelette or Elevated Music Center count towards our points!

  • Log receipts online at shopandlog.com/southglenn

  • Spring 5x points 3/16-4/30 at Great Clips, Kirklands, Magic Nails, Old Navy, Pilates Plus, Sur La Table, T is for Table.

Volunteers Needed for Door Decorating!

Please help us decorate ALL staff doors and make these special for our staff on May 6th. It takes each and every one of our staff members to make Sandburg so special!

This is a fun and easy project that can be done at home and delivered to the school. We will hang the door decorations on Friday, May 3rd from 3:30-5:30pm. This is a great opportunity to be creative thank the hard-working staff for what they bring to our children's daily lives.

Staff Appreciation Week: May 6th-10th

We will have more fun in-store for our Staff Appreciation Week, because "You Lift Us Up!"  Please look for individual class sign-ups and communications on this from Room Parents. In the meantime feel free to decorate a door of your choosing!
